How to Deal with Multiple Sclerosis
A chronic disease known as multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune condition that affects the brain, the brain stem and the spinal cord. Nerve fiber coats are damaged and so the nerve function of leading orders of the brain can be interrupted. This sickness, which is considered common to young adults, is the second leading cause of disability.
After the initial diagnosis, MS shows no typical symptoms. The very first sign that appears is the blurring of eyesight or loss of vision. Most of the patients also experience other abnormal sensations such as numbness and itching. Also common are loss of strength in the extremities, problems with regards to discharges, and dizziness. Other rare symptoms include psychosis, aphasia and epilepsy. There can be difficulty in moving and speaking. Causes of multiple sclerosis are still unknown but epidemiological studies regarding the disease have provided hints on its possible causes which consider the genes and environmental factors.
There are known stages for MS. The unexplained appearance and disappearance of symptoms characterizes the initial diagnosis. The most common is known as the multiple sclerosis relapse-remissions. The secondary progressive form may have the accumulation of neurological symptoms. Pain and fatigue can become more severe. In some cases, such as the benign MS, symptoms usually regress after the initial attack and the patient will live a normal life. However, in malignant sclerosis, there is a rapid deterioration that leads to disability. MS is rarely fatal and that patients still have the normal life expectancy.
In confirming the diagnosis, MRI and study of the cerebrospinal fluid are done. These procedures can help in locating the lesions in the central nervous system for a specific treatment. There are also rehabilitation procedures that are designed to prevent further disabilities. During symptomatic attacks, high doses of methylprednisolone can be administered for short term relief.
Sports Drinks Matter in Sports
Study shows recently that sports drinks can give you a boost in doing fitness activities or fitness workouts. Researchers say that as soon as it hits your mouth, the receptors found inside your mouth send signals to the brain. This doesn’t mean that you just have to rinse it in your mouth and spit it out. Sports drinks help in supplying electrolytes to the body and keeping it hydrated. Drinking water alone can’t satisfy the energy your body needs during a rigid practice session in your sport. Sports drinks also give additional nutrients to the body for you to sustain during the entire session.
If you’re a bodybuilder you should take some time to have sports drink in order for you to endure your bodybuilding activities. It strengthens the muscles in your body and gives metabolic effects. These effects can be more vital when you’re already adding more weights in bodybuilding. As we can see in many sports events, athletes who play longer must have drunk a large volume of sports drink to maintain endurance.
This shows that sports drinks should never be ignored when you’re into sports. It gives you a big push in doing physical activities especially in critical levels like when you’re in a championship game or in other need-to-win situations in sports. This gives athletes an advantage in maintaining high performance during the game. The next time you go for a workout in the fitness center or in the gym for a practice session with your team, you must have brought with you a sports drink to make you pumped up the whole day!

Food Supplements Anyone?
Food supplements are prepared formulas that provide nutrients not sufficiently consumed and absorbed by our body. It started out as just another natural herb remedy. But later, it grew to be part of people’s daily regimen. In coping with the demands of the busy world, more and more are getting into the fad of taking “nutritional” food supplements, conveniently packed as pills, liquids, capsules and many other forms.
Way back, our great grandparents ate natural healthy foods, which made them stronger even at old age. But that was before the toxic wastes polluted our environment and corrupted our food resources. The chemical –free food products that they had before, is far different from the instant and processed meals that we have now. So much so that while nutritional needs were satisfactorily met in the past, we only receive half of what our body is supposed to get out of food today.
There had been mistaken notions about taking food supplements being an adequate replacement for regular food. It must be emphasized that these are not even considered as food substitutes. The term SUPPLEMENT itself does not warrant further explanation. These products are only meant to compensate the missing nutrients in the body.
One of the many reasons why people take food supplements is that it can aid in enhancing the immune system when you are under tremendous stress levels. We all know that stress is not healthy. And so to cope for the energy loss, taking up nutritional supplements is the best thing to consider. Others also use food supplements as an aid for weight loss. It is to ensure that the person undergoing a weight loss program has an energy source for boosting his/her system during tiring routines.
There are plenty of nutritional supplements that you can choose from. It is suggested that you pick something that will suit your kind of lifestyle. While some may work well for others, it does not follow that it will work well for you too.
