Anorexia Nervosa: A Common Threat in Teenagers
Getting too preoccupied about having that perfectly shaped slim figure can sometimes lead to certain types of eating disorders if it is not properly managed. This is a common threat that occurs at the start of the puberty stage. Teenagers these days focus their attention on how they appear to people without taking the proper way to do it resulting to various eating disorders.
We thought of Anorexia nervosa as a common disorder for the rich and famous who are trying to keep up for their popularity. But such problems are already eating up the lives of many adolescents these days. Sad to say, psychological problems may have led such alteration of eating habits. It usually occurs without even knowing they are already suffering from this disorder.
Teenagers who experience this problem usually experiences low self-esteem. Thinking that they are getting fat even though bones and joints now protrude the skin, food seems like an everyday threat. There is already an absence of the desire to eat which in turn if left untreated can cause death.
Treatments are already available for patients suffering from anorexia nervosa. Psychological aid tops the list together with the support of the family. Since it involves thought alteration, it requires much effort not only on the part of the teenagers but to parents as well. Support system is really necessary to achieve a positive goal. Constant communication with the family members is important to evaluate the teenager’s progress. Consulting a nutritionist is highly suggested in order to give teenagers a suitable diet to regain his/her normal body weight.
Every family should check on whether somebody is dealing with such eating disorder. Acceptance and understanding may hold the key to a holistic being and lessen the possibility of developing such killer disorder.
