Food Supplements Anyone?
Food supplements are prepared formulas that provide nutrients not sufficiently consumed and absorbed by our body. It started out as just another natural herb remedy. But later, it grew to be part of people’s daily regimen. In coping with the demands of the busy world, more and more are getting into the fad of taking “nutritional” food supplements, conveniently packed as pills, liquids, capsules and many other forms.
Way back, our great grandparents ate natural healthy foods, which made them stronger even at old age. But that was before the toxic wastes polluted our environment and corrupted our food resources. The chemical –free food products that they had before, is far different from the instant and processed meals that we have now. So much so that while nutritional needs were satisfactorily met in the past, we only receive half of what our body is supposed to get out of food today.
There had been mistaken notions about taking food supplements being an adequate replacement for regular food. It must be emphasized that these are not even considered as food substitutes. The term SUPPLEMENT itself does not warrant further explanation. These products are only meant to compensate the missing nutrients in the body.
One of the many reasons why people take food supplements is that it can aid in enhancing the immune system when you are under tremendous stress levels. We all know that stress is not healthy. And so to cope for the energy loss, taking up nutritional supplements is the best thing to consider. Others also use food supplements as an aid for weight loss. It is to ensure that the person undergoing a weight loss program has an energy source for boosting his/her system during tiring routines.
There are plenty of nutritional supplements that you can choose from. It is suggested that you pick something that will suit your kind of lifestyle. While some may work well for others, it does not follow that it will work well for you too.
